An Important Segment Of Palin's Emails Overlooked?

How much have you heard about the death threats revealed in Sarah Palin's emails since their release? Probably not much, I would wager. That was the point Jim Treacher of the Daily Caller made on Thursday, too:
[snip] AGAINST her, that is. Yep, it turns out there was some news hidden in those thousands of Palin e-mails after all. But the American media couldn’t use it against her, which is why you have to go to the British press to learn about it. The Daily Telegraph reports: “The release of 24,000 pages of Sarah Palin’s emails shows that she received a barrage of abusive emails including death threats in the run up to the 2008 presidential race. One message sent by someone in Juneau, Alaska on Sept 17, 2008 said the governor should be ’shot from one of the planes that shoot the very wolves that you ordered.’ Five days earlier an email landed in her in-box saying she ‘must be killed.’ It said: ‘She doesn’t belong to the NRA to support the right of each citizen to have weapons in an aim of self-defense, but just to support the right of every southern white citizen to shoot all non-white people legally! Sarah Palin MUST BE KILLED!’ Another emailed death threat in the same month, while Mrs Palin was on the campaign trail as John McCain’s vice-presidential running mate, came from Antwerp, Belgium. It said Mrs Palin should be shot and that ‘only on that moment justice will be accomplished.’” If you think Sarah Palin deserved that, you might be a liberal. Or, at the risk of redundancy, an American journalist.[snip] (Click here to read the rest.)

Holy crap. Now, I am not (that) naive, I know many leaders receive death threats, but the vitriol directed at the VP candidate, was rather shocking.

Just as it is shocking that there are very few news sources in the United States that covered this, as Jim Treacher highlighted. After doing my own search, I saw two: ABC News, which mentioned the death threats briefly, though it did highlight what a voracious reader of news Palin was (that that, Katie Couric); and Fox News, which used an AP report, also mentioning the death threats in passing (very brief statement).

Across the pond, as noted above, the Daily Telegraph (UK) has been reviewing Palin's emails (again, a bit of a witch hunt since no other politician I can remember has had to endure this level of intrusion). The title, and subheading are telling, indeed, "Sarah Palin Emails: Enemies Sent A Series Of Death Threats; The release of 24,000 pages of Sarah Palin's emails shows that she received a barrage of abusive emails including death threats in the run up to the 2008 presidential race."

I continue to be amazed at all this woman has endured, and with such incredible strength, determination, and even good humor. What also amazes me is how she is depicted compared to , oh, I dunno, the Petulant Commander in Chief, who somehow got the title of being "even-keeled," at least that's what the NY Times said about him. It is remarkable since he seems to get so testy when someone actually asks him a question. And while Obama claimed families were off-limits, that sure never stopped the media, and liberal bloggers, from going after Palin's then and now.

All things considered, though, I think this witch hunt by the media has backfired tremendously. While the MSM might be a little (too) quiet on some of the more dangerous and heinous emails Palin has received, and what she has endured, they have had to acknowledge that she was engaged, smart, not a "prima donna," and more. I'd say the last laugh is on them.

Now, if they could please get back to doing some real journalism, perhaps investigate Obama 1/100th as much as they have Palin, or heck, even Anthony Weiner to see if he broke any laws with which he can be charged? The MSM failed mightily with Obama in 2008, allowing him to get away with all kinds of secrets and lies. They have the opportunity for a do-ver in 2012. You know, like doing some real journalism instead of this assault on one woman whose only crime as far as I can tell is being a strong, accomplished woman, and who isn't even in the running (yet). Just saying... Copyright © 2011 by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Rev.Amy- Yeah, that whole witch hunt turned out to be a big dud and that is probably scaring he daylights out of Obama. I'm sure his handlers are terrified that they can't get anything on her that they could use to knock her out of the race..if she chooses to run.

The vitriol came early on and it started at the top, with Obama. He first used it to knock out Hillary with his calls of "racism" toward her and Bill and that same meme carried through toward anyone who would dare to resist Obama. He never tried to put a stop to it and made a slight mention of leaving kids out of the fray when Sarah's family was being attacked.

I doubt very much that he cared about HER family, he just wanted to be sure his family wasn't attacked. The thing is, I never saw any attacks or bad remarks by Republicans towards his kids, not once.

I have mixed feelings about Sarah running for President. Although I think she would be heads and shoulders above Obama in the job, I fear that she would rally his base to come out and vote against her. Right now I see a lot of the old Obamabots saying they won't vote for Obama and will stay home instead. However, if Sarah is on the ticket, they will come out to vote against her.

It's frustrating, but I see comments from a lot of the Progressives that they are really pissed at Obama and how they feel betrayed, but they can't get past their egos to admit that they made a mistake by not vetting him more. They all seem so "shocked" by what he's done so far.

The reason they overlooked the death threats is cuz they were too busy discussing whether Sarah should have signed an e-mail from God:

http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2011/06/15/sarah-palin-email-message-written-as-though-from-god/

It was an e-mail to her family. About the birth of Trig. How dare she take liberties with God's "name."

Lamestream is the only way to describe this idiocy.

ME, I am sure the Obot handlers are scared of Palin. You can only imagine the shock and disbelief that she is nothing at all like they and their minions have depicted her as being.

Of course, since they bought all of the Obama BS, swallowing all of this vitriol abt Sarah (and Hillary before her) was just a reflex action for them.

And now they know they have been had. In a big way.

But you are right, they won't admit it. It would take bigger people than they are to do so. Yet, many of them joined the chorus of "If you don't like Obama, you are a racist!" and demeaning women at eveyr turn, so I hardly expect them to all of a sudden get some integrity.

And those who voted for him just because he had a D beside his name, they are the ones who have some real 'splaining to do...

You are spot on abt the kids - his have been left pretty much alone. And he has gotten VERY testy abt them. That was okay, of course, but let Sarah try and defend her kids, and they attack her for that, too.

I hear you abt her running - honestly, I think she is damned if she does, damned if she doesn't, so better to be a thorn in Obama's side, and not galvanize his minions by running.

It just amazes me that these people now are trying to act like they were shocked. Hmm, maybe we should be reprising our articles from 2008 to highlight why we are not buying what they are selling (again).

SYD, could you believe that people were attacking Palin for that? It is just so immature, so juvenile - that is the best with which they can come up?? Because NO ONE has ever, in the history of the world, written anything as if God was speaking.

What a bunch of maroons.

It really must be so hard for them that they ate all of these lies like they were candy to find out now they were a bunch of lemmings. I guess they have to cling to whatever little scrap they can, huh?

Pathetic. Or it would be had Palin and her family not endured so much from these people. I guess she is getting the last laugh...

Do I want to elect somebody who has for years watched us suffer, watched the constitution and our rights suffer, watched a debt that may make our grandchildren suffer, watched an innocent Republican suffer being called a murderer, etc., etc. . . and stayed quiet, and safe while watching?

Or - do I want to elect the one person that has for years shown fortitude spearheading an effective fight against the Left’s bad policies that are causing the suffering?

Only now, these others guys finally stick their neck out to serve us. Only now, because they need our vote. Can they survive the Left and their media? And then even if they can, what will they do after they don’t need our vote anymore?

Sarah must be motivated by something more than ambition. I’m not sure about most of the others. Sarah served us before she had to, before she had to start campaigning for president.
Palin has shown the fortitude the others can only promise. Evidence she truly has a servants heart.

As it turns out... the "letter from God" only made Sarah more likeable to many. It is a constructive response to the news of a handicapped child, IMO. And most sane people (even UUs ;~) will see it that way.

I believe the only decision Sarah is yet to make about her presidential candidacy is... whether to run in 2012 or 2016.

If she runs in 2012, Michele Bachman is actual quite a nice "foil" to have. As Michele is more conservative on social issues. (To the point where I don't think I cold vote for her.)

If Sarah chooses a 2012 run, she should allow the fundi Right to highlight those differences in such a way that Sarah comes off as the more moderate and reasoned candidate that she is.

Interesting times we live in, eh?

Bill, I agree that Palin has a servant's heart - she has made that clear on a number of levels.

It is frustrating that the media has done such a good hatchet job on her that most people have no idea all of the good things she did for her state. There is a reason why she had an 80% approval rating.

I don't know if she will run or not, but if nothing else, she has shown she will not be bullied by the MSM and DNC, or anyone for that matter. Love her or hate her, one has to admire her intestinal fortitude. If only more of our leaders had that...

SYD, I agree - I thought it was a very moving letter, brought me to tears. It was a window into how Sarah and Todd were dealing with this news, what their attitude toward their youngest child was, and how their faith informs them.

Those who criticized her for it seemed petty and mean spirited to me. They just had to find some other way to attack her, and being sanctimonious and arrogant was abt all they had.

Having a special needs child is something that is hard for people who don't have one to understand, but the Palins see Trig as a gift, and that he is.
