BREAKING NEWS - Rep. Anthony Weiner Will FInally Step Down *UPDATED*

At long last, after several weeks of revelation after revelation of way more information and images than we EVER needed of a US Representative, Anthony Weiner will be stepping down on today (Thursday). He plans on calling a press conference for 2:00 pm today, according to The Hill.

In case you need a reminder of what happened with Rep. Weiner, and oh my gosh, I don't know how that could happen, here is a tidbit from The Hill:
[snip] Weiner has been embroiled in controversy since admitting he accidentally sent a lewd picture of himself to a woman in Seattle over Twitter. Weiner initially said his Twitter account had been hacked and did not admit he was the one who sent the photo for more than a week.

He admitted responsibility at a tearful New York news conference in which he also admitted to having had "inappropriate" correspondence with roughly six women over the internet over the past six years. Since the news conference, more embarrassing photos of Weiner have been made public. [snip] (Click here to read the rest.)

Admittedly, that is a sanitized version of what the past few weeks have involved, since there are some mighty, um, revealing photos of Rep. Weiner, taken in the House gym (>available at TMZ, if you really want to see them). Then there was the press conference of porn star, Ginger Lee, on Wednesday, in which she detailed how Rep. Weiner asked her to lie about their conversations.

I mean, really - how much of a scum must one be to have a PORN STAR come out looking better? Apparently, according to her press conference, she was all about discussing politics, and Weiner was all about discussing his, uh, um, well, his "package."

Yeah, Rep. Weiner definitely needs to resign.

I do feel sorry for his wife, Huma Abedin, who just returned from an overseas trip with Sec. Clinton, for whom she works as an aide. What a helluva thing to which to return, isn't it?

Plenty of folks will be discussing this today, but IMHO, Weiner's resignation is LONG overdue. How about you?

*UPDATE* Kirsten Powers, an old friend of Anthony Weiner, and short-term girlfriend, speaks out on Weiner's resignation:

It really does beg the question how so many in the Democratic Party can continue to support this man after the misogynistic, and predatory, manner by which he has conducted himself. Yet, they did... Copyright © 2011 by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Finally broke my blog silence. Wherein I ask my PUMA blogger friends to stop defending the senatorial flasher:

Of course... you are not one who has been, Rev. Amy. But I find the trending tendency to be at least a little disturbing.

Rev.Amy- Well, we all know the gnashing of teeth will begin on the Progressive blogs.

I wrote a short post about this today and included the Democratic Platform...

We believe that standing up for our country means standing up against sexism and all intolerance. Demeaning portrayals of women cheapen our debates, dampen the dreams of our daughters, and deny us the contributions of too many. Responsibility lies with us all.

I added my own version of the true platform, of course. ;-)

Hmmm...word verification: tangl

"Oh what a tangl web we weave when first we practice to deceiv". :-D

I completely understand, SYD. It is staggering to see the people who are defending this man. Disturbing, to say the least.

And thanks for the link - I'll take a look!

ME, you NAILED it - perfect response (and word of the day!). It is amazing to me that they can support this raging misogynistic predator, and act as if they give a damn abt women. Spare me.

Btw, I have updated this post with a video of Kirsten Powers talking abt Weiner. She does NOT mince words, and doesn't understand, either, how so many on the left can defend this jackwagon...

Rev.Amy- I had to go run some errands so I missed the big news conference, just trying to catch up and see what I missed.

That last video that you put up by Kirsten Powers was great. The last line about how the porn star knew what Weiner was doing was wrong but he couldn't see it himself until he was caught was telling. I'd further that thought with the idea that I STILL don't think he realizes what he did was wrong and that he is only sorry for being caught.

Just the fact that he felt the need to have a press conference instead of just resigning and moving on, shows that he still has the need to get up in front of a crowd and be the center of attention. He didn't seem remorseful for his actions but just sorry he lost his job.

The Obots over at Huffpo are just beside themselves with sorrow over their lost fellow progressive. Like Weiner, they just don't see what it is that he did was wrong. What kind of freaky sick world are we living in? Honestly!

Hey, ME -

I missed the conference too (thank goodness), getting ready to go out of town (I am writing from Atlanta). But yeah - I didn't need to see him put himself in front of the camera AGAIN to blather on. He really does love being in front of the camera - that seems to be a common theme with him...

And yes - isn't it telling that the porn star is the voice of dignity between the two of them? Holy moley. That really says so much.

As does the sorrow from the HuffPo crowd that this man had to step down after sullying the House with his disgusting behavior while being paid with TAXPAYING dollars. Talking smut on the phone, taking smutty photos at the House gym, and on and on, but they see nothing wrong with this??

It really explains SO much, doesn't it??

Yikes.
