Here is a tidbit of Logan's interview with Scott Pelley:
Even this short bit conveys the horror of the situation in which Logan found herself on February 11. Here is more:
[snip] She reported without incident for nearly an hour before her interpreter heard words in the Arabic-speaking crowd that gave him pause. He advised the team to leave, but before they could, a mob of several hundred men encircled Logan, who soon became separated from her team and bodyguard as the crowd swept her up.
Logan lost contact with her colleagues for approximately 25 minutes and endured a sexual assault and beating that she feared she would not survive. "There was no doubt in my mind that I was in the process of dying," she tells Pelley. "I thought not only am I going to die, but it's going to be just a torturous death that's going to go on forever..."
Thoughts of her two young children helped reinforce her determination to survive the assault, she says, which finally ended when she was rescued by a group of Egyptian women and soldiers. The soldiers drove her and her team back to their hotel, where she was examined by a doctor. She returned to the U.S. the next day and went directly into a hospital, where she was treated for four days.
When Logan saw her children, "I felt like I had been given a second chance that I didn't deserve...because I did that to them. I came so close to leaving them, to abandoning them," she says. [snip] (Click here to read the rest.)
Her comments about her children are just heartbreaking. Logan's courage and bravery at speaking out about this is commendable. She is one helluva strong woman. Hopefully, her willingness to open up about her own ordeal will enable other women to speak up as well.
That being said, will there ever be a day when women will no longer endure assaults of this magnitude? When women and children will not be casualties of war? Will that day ever come? I pray that it will, but I fear it will not...
All the best to Lara Logan as she returns to work, as she tries to get her life back on track. She is, simply put, remarkable. She has my respect and admiration, as well as my prayers for her healing in all respects. Blessings on her...

The sad thing is that with the spread and acceptance of the radical Muslims in this country and around the world, this type of incident will grow in numbers.
I never hear the so-called "Progressives" (even the women) speak out against this behavior. It seems they are always making excuses for them or blaming the victim. Where was the outrage from Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama? Crickets.
Mary Ellen, you have hit the nail on the head. It is only going to get worse, too. Check out this headline from the New York Times today, "In Shift, Egypt Warms to Iran and Hamas, Israel’s Foes" (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/29/world/middleeast/29egypt.html).
Holy crap. I hate to say I told them so (all those who were celebrating how WONDERFUL it was that a minute number of Egyptians - 250,000 - could overthrow a government that was stable, halfway decent for women, and peaceful to Israel), but I did.
And I would still like to know just WHO was supporting those folks with the food and tents, because SOMEONE was. As it looks now, the Muslim Brotherhood seems to have played its cards pretty darn well (given that Hamas is an off-shoot)...That SHOULD scare the shit out of anyone who cares abt women, and terrorism, but you said it - the "progressives" are all happy abt it.
You know Mary Ellen, one thing I have finally accepted - the progressives don't give a damn abt women. They make that abundantly clear.
And Hillary - to say I am disappointed in her is a tremendous understatement. Her alleged friend, the former first lady of Egypt, Susannah, was considered to be the Egyptian Hillary Clinton due to all of her work for women and children. The irony, the irony...
I also saw the writing on the wall when the overthrow of the Egyptian government took place. My fears also came true when it came to the Coptic Christians who are being persecuted under this new regime. The government police are very much a part of the Christian persecution there...it was no accident that they suddenly disappeared just before the terrorist attack on the Coptic Church a few months back and then when they returned AFTER the explosion, they arrested the Christians who were trying to protect the bodies left on the ground when the Muslim terrorists came back to stomp on the dead bodies and yell "Allahu Akbar!"
The Middle East is a mess, and it's coming our way. I don't think I'm being paranoid, either.
I'm working on a post for next week about the Christian persecution that is accelerating throughout the world. There is so much that is being ignored in our MSM regarding this issue, it's really scary.
ME, I could not agree more. Of course, there is NO outcry from the Left abt the attacks on the Christians (or Israelis, for that matter). We knew that what happened in Egypt would be bad for women AND Christians (never mind Libya - have you noticed that people have stopped asking who the rebels are? Just because the term "rebel" gets applied does NOT mean they are the good guys. The leaders have some pretty nefarious connections, after all, and are also Islamists.).
I look forward to your post next week. I hate that this is even an issue, though...
It is scary, the whole big mess of it. How I wish we had a decent president in times like these...
