Yes, it is Election Day, 2010. Lots of interesting races going on around the country, including here in my state of SC. Oh, yes - the Alvin Greene v. Jim DeMint race should be a nail-biter. Yeah, no, not really. The Haley v. Sheheen race is the one to watch here. It could be a historic occasion for SC - we may well elect our first woman governor, who is also a first generation Indian-American. She could be a first on both counts.
Indeed, from Florida with the US Senatorial race heating up amid claims that former President Bill Clinton stuck his hand in (directed by the White House) to get his old friend, Kendrick Meek to drop out, to California, probably the only state in which a gubernatorial candidate, Meg Whitman, could get in trouble for firing an illegal immigrant who was working under not only false pretenses, but with a fake Social Security card, the races this election season are mighty exciting.
Despite the standard political bickering between parties, one big reason this election is so invigorating is the organic uprising of people across the country who are standing up to Big Government. These people, referred to as Tea Party members, are demanding that the government work FOR us, that it listen to us, and that it not treat us as people too scared "to think clearly" (talking to you, Obama. And yes, he really said that. We're not "scared, President Obamma - we are mad. There's a big difference.). Indeed, they are demanding that our government treat us as they should - as their employers, not their enablers.
Yes, this election is one in which ordinary Americans are standing up, and declaring enough. Enough of treating us like we are children, enough of treating us like our opinions don't matter. Enough of not focusing on the issues that mean the most to us (like the economy and unemployment). Alert NQ Reader, Harp, had the video below in one of my recent posts, which makes the point beautifully:
I think this says it all on this Election Day. Don't give up on our country, get out there and fight, place your vote in the ballot box to make your voice heard. We are, all of us, America.

My first REALLY Independent vote felt fabulous!! All over the party map!! But… women only.
Awesome, SYD! Yes, as the piece from the CSM highlighted the other day, women are greatly underrepresented in this country. That needs to change, and now.
Looking forward to the party at your place!
I voted the Vagina Party. Wall to wall. Nothing but women. It felt GREAT.
Tonight I'll go bow down before my cardboard cutout of Andrea Dworkin and burn incense made of ground up male genitalia. Michael's was out this weekend, so I had to make my own. O:-)
LOL, Janis - I swear, you sure have a way with words!
My partner and I are going to vote shortly (she's been slammed with work today). I do believe SC will be making history with our first woman governor!
I don't know what's in store for CA, Rev, but I'd sure like to see Meg and Carly running the show here for awhile! I don't think we can survive Moonbeam, and "Call me Senator" Babs has overstayed her welcome by a couple of decades. Of course, I may be the only one in SF who feels that way.....
Hey, SF!
I cannot believe people in CA would even consider giving Jerry Brown another run. I am just shaking my head in disbelief.
Let me understand this Boxer is "Call me senator" (to a gazzillion star general), and Obama is "dude." Okey dokey...
Yeah, she's overstayed her welcome. In all seriousness, what has she done for CA in her 28 yrs in office? Anything in particular?
Btw, I cast a vote AGAINST that race-baiting, backstabber, Jim Clyburn today. THAT felt good!!
Less than TWO MONTHS, SF!! Woohoo!
7-1/2 weeks, in fact....but who's counting, Rev. LOL
Well, the people of CA voted Arnie in twice, so I guess they feel voting for Jerry makes up for it. He doesn't have a plan, it's all a lie anyway (as he said after his first governorship)...but he's got that D after his name and that's all anyone can see. I was blind like that, too, until 2008.
Congratulations on your anti-Clyburn vote!!
7-1/2 weeks, 7-1/2 week...
I hear ya, SF - I was, too. I can see that people would want to make up for Arnie, but honestly - how did HE ever become gov.?? Is it something in the water, or possibly the air (you know, the whole pot amendment - teehee)?? Sheesh!
And yeah, Clyburn's going to win my gerrymandered district (and always will), but I just had to do it.
Waiting to see who is set to be our next governor. For the moment, it's tight.
I cannot wait. 7 1/2 weeks. Woohoo!
Congrats on your awesome new Governor!
Two SC firsts in one winner!!
How abt that, SYD? And there's more, too, in our state. More on that later.
Overall, it was quite a night, wasn't it?
