The Year Of The Women? **Updated**

Wow, what a night Tuesday night! This is shaping up to be the Year of the Women, finally. Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina took California, two women with tremendous resumes in the private sector. Nikki Haley won big in South Carolina, though she does have to have a run-off June 22nd. She is fully expected to win that election. Sharron Angle, the Tea Party pick, will face off against Harry Reid in Nevada. And Blanche Lincoln beat her Democratic challenger, Lt.Gov. Bill Halter.

Senator Lincoln is the one Democrat in this bunch, and I have to say, I am THRILLED she beat Halter. As you no doubt have heard, Halter was supported by MoveOn.org, and the big unions, which poured MILLIONS of dollars into Arkansas (around $10 million), so her win is a big push against the power of the unions, as well as the far left agenda. Here she is celebrating her win:

Lincoln isn't done - she has a strong challenger in November, but beating the organized union and MoveOn.org backed candidate is huge, make no mistake. It can also be construed as a bit of a referendum on Bill Clinton v. Obama. Clinton endorsed Lincoln, and the Unions/MoveOn are Obama backers. Maybe the Old Dawg still has it...

Nikki Haley, with the backing of both Gov., Sarah Palin and First Lady (of SC) Jenny Sanford, won the vast majority of votes (49%) with her closest competitor, Gresham Barrett, at 22%. Here is Nikki Haley after the election:

Should Haley win come November, she will be the first woman governor in SC, and the second Indian American governor in the US (along with Bobby Jindal).

Meg Whitman talks about her win, and her upcoming race against Jerry Brown (or "Gov. Moonbeam," as Karl Rove referred to him on "Fox & Friends Weds. morning). In her speech, Whitman gives a shout-out to Carly Fiorina on her win to face Barbara Boxer:

And speaking of Carly Fiorina, here she is in her speech following her win, a win which will pit her against long time senator, Barbara Boxer. She returns the favor to Whitman, with a "Holla" to her, too:

Sharron Angle, the Tea Party backed candidate, will be facing off again st Harry Reid in the Fall. Oh, I cannot begin to tell you how badly I want her to beat Reid. Even when I still considered myself a Democrat (before 5/31/08), I was not a fan of Reid's, and my opinion of him has only gone down from there. Here's Angle after her win:

Wow. Again, what a night. I might add, I have said a number of times, that after the Democratic Party eviscerated the best candidate they could have had to be the first woman president, I have no doubt that the first woman president will come from the Republican Party.

Honestly, it has been interesting to me to see how the Republican Party seems to support its women in positions of power far more than the Democrats do. You know, the party that claims to be the party for women. After the misogynistic treatment of Clinton by the DNC itself, compared to the treatment by the RNC with Palin, as well as other powerful women in the RNC, I just knew the Demos had blown their chance in a big, big, big way. Oh, sure, the Democrats have a few women senators and representatives, but none of them are on a par with Clinton. Hell, Obama is not on a par with Clinton, never will be (I think he knows that, too - that's why he was always putting her down to try and build himself up).

When you look at a field like this, all of these powerful, successful women who are Republicans, you just know that our first woman president is going to come from this kind of group. That is assuming Hillary Clinton is telling the truth when she says she will not run for president again, though since Obama has made such a mess of things in such a short period of time, I am not sure she COULD win in this climate.

November will be must see with Boxer having a strong, accomplished woman like Fiorina facing her, Reid having Angle facing him, Whitman against "Gov. Moonbeam," and Sheheen having the very popular Haley against him. Things don't look great for Lincoln against her Republican opponent, though. Maybe Bill will show up for her again...

Stay tuned - November is not that far away!

UPDATE:
UPDATE: Gov. Palin also endorsed Susanna Martinez (R) for Governor of New Mexico. Martinez also won big Tuesday night. Here is Gov. Palin talking with Megyn Kelly about the BP oil crisis, and near the end, she discusses the Primary results, especially the role her endorsements played:

In other words, Palin does not take credit for her endorsements making that much of a difference with the wins of the "Mama Grizzlies" - wow. What kind of politician is she, anyway? Ahem.

Anyway, the next few months should prove to be exciting. Can't wait to see how all of this plays out!

Ladies Night!!! What a turn around, eh?

I absolutely love Nikki Haley and I was also happy that Lincoln beat out Halter. I imagine that the Daily Kossacks are all crying in pillows. Ha! Twits.

The race against Reid is going to be a tough one. I think it will all come down to turn-out at the polls. My brother (another Obot...I'm surrounded) lives in NV and he'll vote for Reid, but I'll be giving him hell until then.

The one thing this should tell those in Congress...they stuck it to voters one time too many with that health care bill being shoved down our throats. I hope they choke on it.

Wow is right! What a great victory for women...strong, competent, intelligent, hardworking women.

I was SO happy that Senator Lincoln beat Halter after I heard he was backed by MoveOn and the unions.

Nikki Haley took all that mudslinging and didn't miss a beat. I loved her speech.

Harry Reid is long past needing to go, I hope Sharron Angle can win against him. I don't know that much about her, I'll have to read up. (btw, the video you have for her is actually a duplicate of Carly's speech.)

I am SO pleased that Carly Fiorina won. I really like her and I'd like to see her kick Boxer's butt. I'm glad Meg Whitman won as well, although I'm not 100% sure of her. She seems to have changed her positions frequently, but she's against amnesty and against sanctuary cities, and she's run a successful business, so I'd rather have her over Moonbeam any day. Brown needs to be put out to pasture. He's a bit wishy-washy, been in politics too long, owes too many favors. I think his bright shining moment was when he was dating Linda Ronstadt all those years ago!

You just never know how California will vote, though. My home state has been so inundated with people from other states who are caught up in celebrity and the idea of liberalism and the illusion that streets here are paved with gold... they can't seem to understand California is broke. So, who knows how they'll vote. But I won't be unhappy if Whitman and Fiorina come out winners in November.

I believe you're right about the first woman president coming from the Republican party, Rev. I think Hillary Clinton knows that she's done. She hitched her wagon to a loser and now it's too late for her. Honestly, I don't know that I would vote for her again. And there isn't anyone else. The Dems aren't exactly woman-friendly.

It's going to be an interesting 5 months!

Hey, y'all - sorry for the duplicate Fiorina video. I can't actually see the videos that are up in the preview - Blogger doesn't like the Fox format, apparently Anyway, it is fixed now!

ME, I think Nikki will win easily here in SC. I thought her speech was good, too. I was watching the dynamics with her family, and they seemed affectionate with each other, like when her little boy hugged his dad when Nikki was talking abt him, and then the hugs with the little girl on her birthday.

She is Sanford's choice - he has worked hard for the state, and got us that big Boeing contract, no small feat. Considering the unemployment we have here, that was a major coup.

Oh dear - your brother, too? Like I said, even as a full blown, yellow dog Dem, I never cared for Harry Reid, and now I flat out dislike him. His opponent is pretty conservative, but honestly, if she can get him out of the Senate, more power to her.

Or like you said. :-)

SF, it is pretty amazing what happened. I cannot wait to see what will happen with Boxer and Fiorina. Someone said Boxer had $10 mil in her warchest, and someone else mentioned that Fiorina is a billionaire, so...I used to respect Boxer. Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention to the words coming out of her mouth, or maybe she really has changed. Either way, she needs to be retired. Fiorina can do it.

There was another clip of Fiorina I was trying to get - an interview she did this morning. They asked her abt the dogs Boxer took at her abt HP. She rattled off all of the things she did while she was there doubling their revenue, getting tons of new patents, and concluded with saying, "I will run on that record all day long." She is not backing down one bit.

And Whitman seems like a good candidate to beat Jerry Brown. I'm pretty surprised he's running again, to be honest. I agree - how he got her to date him is amazing. I've always been a fan of hers. Anyway, I appreciate your assessment. I do think he will be seen as too establishment in this current climate. Whitman has a lot going for her, that's for sure.

This coming election sure won't be dull, will it? :-)

Excellent video that was added, Rev.Amy! Isn't it amazing how Palin didn't grab all the credit for those wins and instead backed off and gave the credit where it belonged, with the candidates. So unlike the Narcissist in Chief Barack Obama, eh?

Hmmm...I'm not sure if I want to go there! :-D

ROTFLMAO - oh, you are too funny. You must join SF, Suzy, and me in Montserrat this winter! I could use some laughing my fool head off for days after the past couple of years, couldn't you?

And yes - very, very different approach. One takes credit for things he didn't do, and the other refuses to take credit for something she did do. Amazing.

Congratulations to your Blackhawks!! I know y'all have been waiting a long time for this. Yippee! (Oh, and your Sox kicked butt last night, too. Maybe they could teach Obama how to do that...)

Rev.Amy- There's nothing I'd like more than spending the winter in Montserrat, but I know that won't happen. I'll keep in touch by e-mail and you can taunt me with pics.

Yeah, those Blackhawks! It sure was nice to see them get that win. My dad was a HUGE fan of the Blackhawks, and hockey in general. In fact, his doctor made him stop watching the games because his blood pressure would soar and that didn't help with a bad heart!

My husband and son went to the Sox game last night but I stayed home...too tired after a long day. I've missed quite a few games this season (which is just as well :-) ). Hopefully I'll get back to my old energetic self again one day. I'm tired of feeling tired. Sigh....

Oh, we'll just be there for a week - doesn't that sound more appealing now? :-D

You know I have been thinking abt you, and hoping you're okay. When you get a moment, drop me a line, and let me know how you are.

Oh, my abt your dad and hockey! I understand, though. That's how I am with my Yankees. I bet your dad would be SO happy that his team finally won the title.

Glad your husband and son were able to go to the game. I bet they had an awesome time...

Well, when we DO get to go to Montserrat, we will definitely send you photos, and have a room for you to come visit. :-)
